MAPPING POSTCOLONIAL LITERATURE

In this new project, I'm collaborating with an undergraduate student and the Office of Undergraduate Research to create a map of all geographical locations mentioned in postcolonial novels of the twentieth century to provide a picture of the ways in which space is navigated and negotiated. We will generate a list of canonical poco novels from former British colonies and create a dataset from HathiTrust. Using HathiTrust's "named entity recognition" tool, we will scrape geographic data and clean it to build an interactive map..
